CASTLETOWNBERE
Castletownbere is the main town in the Beara peninsula. Bearhaven is one of the
largest natural harbours in the world. It is used for many sea activity
sports and pastimes including windsurfing, sea angling and many other
water sports. Near the town there is Berehaven golf club with a 9 hole
golf course.

In the beginning of the seventeenth (1602) the battle of Dunboy occured here, and a man called O'Sullivan Bere led the fight against the English. Castle ruins still remain to this day. Castletownbere is one of the major white fishing ports in Ireland. It is an ideal starting point to discover the south west area of the peninsula.

A couple of miles off the mainland is Bere Island, which has fantastic scenery. There is a car and foot passenger ferry service from the pier on the mainland to Lawrence cove on Bere Island.
On the island Rerrin village has local amenities including a post office, a restaurant, a public house and a general shop.
Adagh is located about 1.5km from the pier and has self catering holiday homes. also on Bere island there is a cycling route, Berea walking route and archaeological sites.
